Suggestion for Good Bible Reading

Bible Reading By Books

Since we have been studying the Bible by chapters or paragraphs or verses, now we are ready to study the Bible by books. Originally, Bible is to be read book by book not by chapter or paragraph. Bible Reading is God’s command. Therefore, it is essential. Although you might say simple reading is not sufficient for us to understand the Bible, God promised the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. (Jn 16:13) I believe the Holy Spirit is the Key to understand the Bible without minimizing the importance of other Bible teachers or other books written by Bible teachers.

As we all know, when we read the book, it is very possible for us to see what we want to see, while missing what we need to see apart from the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we should minimize the negative influence of our present knowledge. We need to minimize the negative influence of others’ knowledge. The real questions is how we can do this?

Let the Holy Spirit illumine the Bible to us through reading the whole Bible book by book so that we can understand the main theme of the each book. Let the Bible interpret the Bible through reading the whole Bible through book by book so that we can understand the big picture of the each book and of the whole Bible. This could be the one of the best ways to understand the Bible correctly.

This is my personal suggestion about Bible reading by book for Second Bible study on Saturday morning.

1> Read the each book over and over again without attention to the details at first.

2> continuously read the each book focusing on the main theme for each book.

3> Read the each book connecting each book in the whole Bible together.

This is more in detail of my personal suggestion about Bible reading.

The 1st reading: Read the entire book without attention to the details. What is the one main theme/ Key verse of the entire writing?

The 2nd reading: Read the entire book again. What are couple major topics or subjects in this book?

The 3rd reading: Read the entire book again. What are the main divisions of the book?

The 4th reading: Read the entire book again. How is each chapter related in this book?

The 5th reading: Read the entire book again. How is each paragraph related in this book?

The 6th reading: Read the whole book again. Look for relevant parallel/paradoxical passages within the same book.

The 7th reading: Read the whole book again. What is the importance of this book in the whole Bible?

This book by book reading will take a lot of time especially long books.

But I believe that reading book by book through the entire Bible will be rewarding.

About 2nd Bible study - 12/2/2011

Dear Young Missionaries

This is Mark Park. This is my suggestions for 2nd Bible study on Saturday Morning Group.

There are many different things we need to know to grow up spiritually.

But I choose 5 'areas' that we can study together to know God more deeply.

And I purposely divide each area into 5 'topics'. (see the following)

So if we have 5 regular members, each member can choose one topic in each area which he has desire for. We can also assign each topic to 5 regular members who we think he might be better in that topic. And if we have more than 5 regular members, some people can choose the same topics.

If we have less than 5 regular members, then some people might have to choose more than others.

For example, let’s assume one regular member choose the following topics.

1. Minor Prophets in OTs, 2. Paul’s Letters II, 3. Doctrines for Salvation,

4. History of Reformation, 5. Family Issues.

For the next 10 years as long as this second Bible study goes,

He can focus on this 5 topics continuously so that he can teach himself and others during the second bible studies. Of course, he can study other areas if he wants. But at least he must study the assigned area first for the purpose of helping himself as well as others. This can be flexible and changable. This is only suggestion.

I do not know how long we can have second Bible study, but if we can continue at least couple years, I think some of us might become semi-experts on that specific area and we can continuously develop our expertise as time pass by. many co-workers in our church will get benifit from them.

May God richly bless our Second Bible Study for His name Sake and for our spiritual growth.

In Christ

Mark Park

About Parenting - 11/28 by Mark Park

Dear Co-workers in the Lord.

Hello, this is Mark Park. I just want to share my thoughts with you.

this is all the e-mail address I have. some address I do not know who's address is.

if I sent it to the wrong person, please forgive me. and if anyone know sunday school teachers or CBF staffs e-mail, would you please let them know about this?

I hope this is helpful for them if any.

Suggestions /Questions regarding Parenting; Spiritual Education

Although my understanding on spiritual education to children is very limited, partial and even might be biased, I just want to share my suggestions or questions regarding co-working between the Sunday school teachers (SSTs) and parents on the purpose of teaching the Bible to our children more effectively.

Personally, I got a lot of benefits from Msn John Choi and Abraham Jung through their experiences and insights, still I need more help from others including SSTs/CBF in order to be parents whom God wants us to be.

CBF staff members and Sunday school teachers (SSTs) in our ministries have been faithfully taught the Bible to our children. I am very grateful for their hard works and devotions and sacrifices especially Msn Billy Park and SSTs teachers including Y, James Yoon, Sh. Paul Lim (from Washington;2nd Gen).

I do not know whether SSTs already discussed the following things which I will share with you or not.

My questions are these.

One, Can CBF staffs/SSTs prepare parenting education class (or bible study series for parenting)?

to excel/equip parents to teach their children at home more effectively.

to make parents to be better parents/teachers at home.

Two, Can CBF staffs/SSTs prepare the system which SSTs and Parents can co-work together to teach children?

Co-working to maximize the effectiveness of the bible study at Sunday school class and home education.

The following is my humble opinion regarding co-working between SSTs and parents.

(1) Sunday school teachers (SSTs) prepare the organized/scheduled teaching lessons in advance.

One, prepare one to two weeks/months/quarters/years teaching plans.

Two, prepare special occasions teaching lessons.

Three, prepare organized topical lessons.

(2) SSTs prepare teaching materials for parents based on SSTs’ class schedules. (if possible)

one, prepare summarized teaching points based on each passage for parents.

Two, it could be simply, bible passages only.

Three, it could be messages files prepared by Power point presentations.

Four, it could be more in detail information for parents.

just like home work packages provided by school teachers.

Related multiple bible passages (for older children)

stories for the purpose of emphasize the importance of teaching lessons.

Things which parents and children can do together

to learn the one point lesson in practical lives.

                                Etcs.

(3) Parents teach their children during the week according to the teaching materials.

Parents can also learn a lot of biblical lessons while teaching their children.

They can try to obey the bible verses together with their children.

Parents read it to them, explain to them again differently during the week.

Message files can be modified by parents freely to emphasize the one point lesson.

These are just my thoughts; I am not sure how much CBF/SSTs can do for these.

Is there any way that parents can help them to be prepared?

But if we prepare them, it could be valuable resources.

These can motivate parents to dedicate their lives to obey God’s commands.

(Deut 6:1-9, Prov 22:6, Eph 6:1-4)

As we all know, children spiritual educations are composed with many things; church education, home educations and societies (school, media) educations.

CBF staffs/SSTs can empower parents to teach their children at home.

CBF staffs/SSTs can network with parents in order to expand the effectiveness of Sunday school class.

As far as I know, JBF messages are following the adults worship service messages.

It will be very Ideal. If, children’s bible class passage and adult bible passage are related topically, (not necessary same passage)

Parents can prepare the same one point lesson (bible passage)

just like teacher prepare the class.

Parents can study the passage during the weekly GBS with other parents.

Parents can meditate on the same point (through writing testimony/meditation)

Parents can discuss this point with their children after the Sunday worship service.

Parents can expand this one point lesson with their children throughout the week.

Parents can prepare/teach/review the one point lesson with their children.

Encourage their children to read, write and memorize the bible verses.

Sharing parent’s meditations with their children.

Struggle to obey or practice the one point lesson in our/their lives together.

This might be too much burdens to CBF ministry.

Since, every parent has different situations; I guess this can be variable depending on situations. I guess we can pray about it and prepare it one by one as Lord allows.
